Green grass letters are scattered on a white textured surface. The letters are in lowercase and appear to be made of grass, adding a natural element to the composition.

The Rock Chronicle

To develop a Typographic Voice and Visual Narrative that illustrates the story and life of a persona of popular culture. A series of experimental typography was to be explored through a selection of specific words and phrases to describe best the persona’s style, experiences, and life. In this Project, I decided to focus more on the personal side of the Rock and implement elements that would create a juxtaposition of the word’s meaning. These words and saying were symbols of Dwayne Johnson’s childhood and struggle for fame. The experimental typography is formatted within a newspaper format, with stories matching the type.

Three copies of a magazine titled The Rock Chronicle are shown overlapping, with large pieces of raw red meat arranged on the cover to spell out the word Dewey.
A collage of four sections: top left and bottom left feature the word Humble in grunge style; top right and bottom right display Dewey in raw meat lettering on yellow and text backgrounds.
A collage featuring bold, textured text reading 7 DOLLAR and Rocky Maivia, with pages of an article containing large, woven-textured headlines, black backgrounds, and blocks of white and orange text.
A collage of magazine layouts features the word “depression” in green mossy text and “dashed dreams” in orange, playful letters over blue crystals, against backdrops of articles and dark or white backgrounds.
A collage of four magazine spreads featuring bold, creative typography with food textures, including meat, vegetables, and noodles, used to form large, attention-grabbing words overlaid on text backgrounds.
